It's all whey good.
The benefits of whey protein seemed to be everywhere including as an antioxidant, an immune supporter, a treatment for liver damage, and building lean muscle mass. Whey is a high quality protein derived from cow’s milk during cheese making. During the separation process, whey is released without most of the carbohydrates and fats. It's an excellent source of branched-chain amino acids. Bodybuilders, in particular, use whey to maintain their protein intake without adding fat to their diet.
There are no known interactions with other foods, herbs, nutritional supplements, or pharmaceutical drugs. Although, people who are sensitive to dairy products may also develop an allergic reaction to whey.
Whey is found usually in a powder form and in several different flavors. Whey itself is low in carbs, but the added flavorings and sugars may add unwanted carbs. Check the labels, and choose a low-carb whey (2 to 6 grams of carbs) which is available at most drug and nutritional product stores. Blend it with some water and ice, and a few tablespoons of heavy whipping cream for a very satisfying shake. It is not really meant to be a meal replacement. It should be used more as an after work-out snack, or something to curb your hunger between meals. Whey is an ideal high quality protein for those on an HPLC diet.
